Gynecological Pathology – Practical Guide and Diagnostic Algorithms.

This is a book to fill a very important gap in medical literature: providing a different perspective in a practical approach to aid pathologists in both day-to-day and challenging diagnosis in gynecologic pathology. Differently from other areas in pathology, gynecologic pathology is permeated by many pitfalls that may lead to misdiagnosis. The learning curve, also, is not steep as in other areas, and it is fundamental for pathologists just out of their training and also for those who practice for a long time and need a recycling of their knowledge to have an ally when they sit at the microscope. Our idea here is to be different from the books that are available and have an approach focused on cases, novel classifications, molecular inputs and updated concepts. We consider that our work will not be a plain textbook, but to act as a guide for fast consultation for pathologists who are signing out on their cases. On the other hand, we also want to provide enough information for those who need to learn from scratch or to update their concepts to sit and study thoroughly, and to stay up-to-date with all the current concepts in the field. In summary, we want a different approach to gynecology pathology. We are aware that this is a very challenging area and knowledge changes on a day-to-day basis. Consequently, better resources are needed to improve diagnostic accuracy, to provide the best assistance to patients and also to make its use the best possible. Women's health is of utmost importance to me, and an adequate treatment starts with an adequate diagnosis.
Firstly, the idea of a "Survival Guide" is to be of aid to those who are generalists in pathology, but also to figure as a source for those who specialize in GynPath to consult in cases that are challenging.
Our approach is to use a mixed format. It will be mainly based on algorithms that the reader can use to draw a line of thought in the route to the correct diagnosis. It is not going to be exclusively case based, but the main plan is to use case examples with clinical history and photographs both of the gross appearance of lesions, but, mainly, of micrographs both for H&E and IHC, and completing with the molecular analyses of the more important cases.

The book is expected to be released in mid-February 2025.
The main idea here is to make pathologists improve their skills on GynPath. This is one of the most challenging fields in pathology right now, with novel classifications coming out every month and better and better understanding on the molecular basis of disease. Our plan is to innovate with the so-called Algorithmic Approach, but to also have written content for learning purposes, printed examples of cases, and, as said before, an online repository so the book doesn't stay outdated.
