Título

Development of a Training Plan for Nurses in Systemic Breast Cancer Treatment

Introdução

Breast cancer, responsible for 11.7% of global cases, requires personalized guidelines. Nurses play a crucial role in all phases of care, and specialized training at referral centers improves both the quality of care and the patient experience, resulting in better clinical outcomes. Efficient integration within hospital institutions demands guidance and training from teams that encourage learning through meaningful information.

Objetivo

Development of a Training Plan for Oncology Nurses in a Breast Cancer Reference Center during the Chemotherapy or Targeted Therapy Stage, based on a Minimum Training Curriculum.

Métodos

This qualitative and descriptive study collected data from 16 specialist nurses in the field of chemotherapy through a structured questionnaire administered in person in March 2024. The study was conducted following approval by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) under protocol No. 3570/24.

Resultados

Among the respondents, 11 were chemotherapy nurses, 3 are nurse navigators, 1 was a lead nurse, and 1 was a research nurse. After analyzing the data, a training plan was developed based on the respondents´ preferences: 67% opted for online training, and 33% preferred group case discussions. These preferences highlight the need to balance theoretical and practical teaching methods, as well as the importance of interaction and experience exchange in the training of specialized breast cancer nurses.

Conclusões

The data collection allowed for the identificacion of the preferred training methodology among the majority of specialists. By considering the professionals´chosen training modality, the plan aims to enhance the development and engagement of oncology nurses, ultimately benefiting the organization.
